Adaptogens are both natural and artificial substances improving the ability to overcome stressful conditions. The concept of adaptogen was formulated in the mid-20th century, the prefix "adapto" was derived from the generalized adaptation syndrome , which was then a new discovery of theoretical medicine . Adaptogen is a pharmacological ideal that differs from the Paracelsus concept of a long-term predominant drug in Western (Euro-American) medical practice. The Paracelsus paradigm does not distinguish between poisons and drugs, the concept of a drug combines with a particular indication (the main effect), and the toxic effects of medicines are referred to as "side effects". In contrast, the adaptogen must not have toxic or unilateral effects. The first natural adaptogens were described in the 1950s by Russian scientists who drew on the so-called Chi- Boosters of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TČM), Ayurveda herbs and some of the plant tonics of our Pharmacopoeia. As a model of natural adaptogen, ginseng was genuine . In addition to the stabilization of the stress (hypothalamic-pituitary) axis, adaptogens investigate the protective effect on physiological systems (nervous, cardiovascular, liver, kidney ...) and other health parameters such as physical and mental performance, healing and regeneration, inflammation, pain And generally immunity, especially anticancer.
